Common questions
How do I change which two texts are shown?
Open Versions from the reader. Choose one for Left and one for Right, or use Swap to exchange them.
Why does one column say the chapter is not there?
Not every edition contains everything. A Bible has no Book of Mormon, the Hebrew ends with the Old Testament, and the Greek begins with the New. When the edition you have chosen does not contain the chapter you are reading, Ambos says so in that column rather than silently showing something else. Choosing a different edition for that side will fill it.
Why don't the verse numbers always line up?
Because translations disagree about where verses begin. The Hebrew numbering runs a verse ahead of the English through much of the Psalms; some editions merge two verses into one, and some split one into two. Ambos aligns the columns by what the verses say rather than by their numbers, so a row may show verse 4 beside verses 4–5. That is the alignment working, not a fault.
How do I add a text of my own?
Go to the Library, press Add a text, and choose Add a file from this device. It is read on your device and never uploaded. If the file cannot be read, Ambos will say why rather than adding something broken.
How do I search?
Open search from the reader and type. Every word you type must appear; putting a phrase in double quotes finds those words together. The first search in an edition takes a moment while the index is built on your device, and after that it is kept.
How do I copy or share a verse?
Touch a verse. You can copy either edition on its own, copy both together, or share the passage to another app.
The screen sleeps while we are reading
Ambos holds the screen on while a chapter is open, and that can be turned off.
Settings → While reading → Keep the screen on
The text is too small, or too tight
Reading size sets how large the text is, and multiplies with whatever text size your phone is already set to. Spacing — Compact, Standard, or Relaxed — sets how much room each verse is given.

Light or dark
Ambos follows your device by default and can be fixed to one or the other.
Settings → Appearance → System · Light · Dark
How much room does it take, and can I get some back?
The texts are expanded on your device the first time each one is opened. Storage lists what each edition is using, and any edition can be removed from this device and added again later.
Settings → Library → Storage
Reporting a problem
Email g0li4th@g0li4th.com. These make a problem far quicker to find:
- Your device and its version of Android or iOS.
- Which two editions were open.
- The chapter and verse where it happened.
- What you expected to see, and what you saw instead.
- A screenshot, if the problem is something visible.
An error in one of the texts
Worth reporting, and welcome. Send the edition, the reference, and what the text should say. The texts are prepared from published public-domain sources, so an error is either in the source or in the way Ambos read it, and both are worth fixing.
